'Unbelievable' free-agent & PL gem: 3 players Sunderland could sign if they hire Liam Rosenior - opinion

Sunderland could benefit in the transfer window if Liam Rosenior was to join the club.

Sunderland are yet to appoint a permanent successor after Michael Beale was sacked in February.

The Black Cats have been linked with a host of names abroad, while the most recent reports have tipped the club to go in for Liam Rosenior if they miss out on their first choice target.

Rosenior was sacked by Hull City earlier this month after they narrowly missed out on the play-offs, leaving supporters baffled and slightly frustrated.

The 39-year-old has also rejected Plymouth, while Birmingham City are also said to be plotting an ambitious move to bring him to League One.

While it seems Sunderland’s pursuit of Rosenior is some way off, looking at the transfer business he could do at the Stadium of Light makes for intriguing reading.

Here are three players that Liam Rosenior could bring with him to Sunderland…

Three players Liam Rosenior could re-sign at Sunderland

Aaron Connolly

Aaron Connolly joined Hull City on loan then permanently in the summer.

He netted ten goals in total, but fell down the pecking order in the second half of the campaign.

Despite that, Rosenior often praised the striker and he may well have picked up more game time if it wasn’t for the Tigers’ attacking talent.

Rosenior was clearly a fan of Connolly, and with Sunderland desperately needing attacking reinforcements, he could look to re-sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

Tyler Morton

The midfielder picked up eight goal contributions and continued his brilliant form in the Championship, after really impressing with Blackburn Rovers too.

Morton still seems some way off Liverpool’s first team though and could be sent back out on loan again this summer.

Joe Wildsmith

Rosenior signed Joe Wildsmith for Derby back in 2022 and he has since become a very important player for them.

The goalkeeper picked up 20 clean sheets in 40 games this term, claiming the League One Golden Glove and the Save of the Season.

Despite his contribution to the Rams’ promotion, Wildsmith has been released and is now available for free.

Sunderland are in need of a new shot-stopper, whether Anthony Patterson leaves or not. The ‘unbelievable‘ 28-year-old seems like he could be a good addition for absolutely nothing.
