'They’re quoting your friends': Fox News host fact-checks GOP’s Stefanik live on-air

"Fox News Sunday" host Shannon Bream and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY)

Fox News host Shannon Bream on Sunday confronted Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) with quotes from a New York Times article that described the GOP representatives one-time opinion of former President Donald Trump — including that she “called him whack job at one point."

The “Fox News Sunday” host prompted Stefanik to "take exception" when she asked why the New York lawmaker “[changed her] mind about President Trump.”

“Well Shannon, it's a disgrace that you would quote the New York Times with nameless, faceless—“ Stefanik began before Bream cut her off.

“They’re quoting your friends,” Bream said, noting there are “a number of names of people who are quoted in the article.”

Stefanik called the article a “false smear” before Bream noted the article uses Stefanik’s own words in describing her prior opinion of Trump.

“They quote you on a radio station saying he’s insulting to women,” Bream said. “Is it a misquote, did you not say that?”

Stefanik insisted that she was referring only to audio “Democrats leaked out in 2016,” during which Trump infamously claimed he could “grab [women] by the p***y” because he’s famous.

“[It’s] a disgrace that you would take a New York Times article and just read negative quotes, when the reality was I was the only Republican elected woman from the northeast who voted for him in 2016,” Stefanik said.

“Okay,” Bream replied. “Folks can go read that article for themselves, there are plenty of names and people who went on the record.”
