What Thiago Alcantara was spotted doing as he arrived at Anfield for the last time as a Liverpool player

Jurgen Klopp was not the only person making his final appearance at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been such a huge figure at the club since his arrival in 2015, the day was always going to belong to Jurgen.

As he’ll no doubt be keen to point out following the final whistle though, Klopp’s coaching staff will also follow him out of the door this summer.

But along with the likes of Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, a couple of the Liverpool playing squad will be leaving, too. The two confirmed departures will be Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip.

And although neither were fit enough to be in the matchday squad on Sunday, they were both present on an emotional day at Anfield.

What Thiago was spotted doing before his last Liverpool game

It was no surprise that Thiago wasn’t ready to play for Liverpool in Klopp’s final game in charge.

The 33-year-old has only played five minutes all season. He’s been missed, but by now his absence is pretty much a given.

Nevertheless, Thiago has been with the Reds for four years now. It is not an insignificant amount of time.

The Spaniard has contributed to one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Although he’s now looking for a new club, he’ll be remembered well at Liverpool.

And it seems that Thiago himself will look back on this period in his career fondly, too. Journalist Lewis Steele spotted the midfielder ‘taking it all in’ before the game.

“There’s Thiago, taking it all in,” Steele writes, alongside a picture of Thiago stood on the Anfield touchline pre-match against Wolves.

Where is Thiago going next?

It is a real shame that Liverpool never truly got to see the best of Thiago. On his day he’s an absolutely fabulous footballer.

Had the former Barcelona man been fit more often, you can’t help but feel Liverpool would have a trophy or two more in their cabinet.

Having taken part in training this week, it seems that Thiago is now fit – or at least will be by the start of next season.

If he can stay that way, then Liverpool’s No.6 will be a fantastic signing for whoever he joins this summer.

The most recent claims have stated that Thiago could even stay in England. With offers reportedly arriving from Spain as well though, perhaps he’ll head back home. Wherever he goes, Thiago will always have his years at Anfield.
