'Outstanding': Leeds now reportedly want to sign star whose 'unbelievable' work-rate once amazed Daniel Farke

Leeds United booked their spot in the Championship play-off final at the expense of Norwich City, with Daniel Farke’s side blowing the Canaries away at Elland Road in Thursday night’s second-leg.

The result put paid to David Wagner’s tenure at Carrow Road, and perhaps Leeds may return in the summer in the hope of poaching Norwich’s top goalscorer.

Josh Sargent certainly endeared himself to Leeds fans after he had a golden chance saved by Illan Meslier when the play-off semi-final was still in the balance.

And according to reports this week, Leeds are interested in signing Sargent should Farke’s men go on and win the play-off final against Southampton at Wembley.

What Daniel Farke has previously said about Josh Sargent

Farke obviously knows Sargent well, having been the man to sign him for Norwich back in 2021, so if the forward decides that he wants to leave, you would imagine that Leeds would have a decent chance of getting a deal done.

Sargent is yet to prove himself as a goalscorer in the Premier League, with just two goals in his 26 top-flight games following his move to Norwich.

But he is someone who has found fresh confidence in the second tier, scoring 29 times across the last two campaigns.

And he is someone who works incredibly hard for the side, as Farke noted after one performance back in 2021.

“I have to say first of all that Josh [Sargent] had an outstanding performance,” he said, as reported by Norfolk Live.

“His workload was unbelievable both with and against the ball. He was able to keep the ball in the pocket and also against a difficult back three of Brighton.

“He was able to initiate so many good situations and brought himself into good positions as well. I think he played excellent today with Teemu Pukki.”

Leeds target has plenty to prove in the Premier League

Leeds fans will have mixed feelings about the prospect of signing Sargent this summer, particularly if the club are promoted back to the top-flight, despite Farke’s previous praise.

The likes of Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford have definitely had their bright moments this season, while Mateo Joseph is knocking on the door.

Sargent did not appear to be fully fit for the play-off semi-final, but supporters will still be wondering if he is enough of an upgrade on what the club already have, particularly given his previous record in the Premier League.

He will definitely have a point to prove if he makes the move.
