'He was absolutely right': Gary Neville shares what Brian Kidd told him about £225k-a-week Man City player

Manchester City have won a fourth Premier League title in a row, after beating West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola‘s side got off to a perfect start when Phil Foden blasted the hosts 1-0 up from the edge of the penalty area.

The Premier League Player of the Season calmed any nerves with the strike, and then he doubled his tally, sweeping home Jeremy Doku‘s cross from the left.

City then conceded to a sublime acrobatic effort from Mohammed Kudus.

Thankfully, City enjoyed a comfortable second-half with Rodri once again coming in clutch with a goal to make it 3-1.

City are champions of England again, and Foden was once again a hero for the Citizens – and Gary Neville shared a wholesome story about the 23-year-old during today’s game…

Foden rounded off the season in style today, and he really showed why he has been named the Premier League Player of the Season.

Foden was absolutely sensational once again in a central role, constantly finding space between the lines and taking the ball on the half-turn.

There can be no debate now – Foden has developed into a world-class player.

And this will not come as a surprise to Brian Kidd, who knew the development that would come.

Speaking on commentary for Sky, Neville said: “I always remember, there was a lot of talk around Phil Foden as a young player.

“Maybe at the age of 17, and I remember speaking to Brian Kidd, who was my coach at Man United, and moved to Man City as a coach and he said if he doesn’t become a top player we may as well all pack in.

“He knew a thing about a good young player Brian Kidd and he was absolutely right. What a player. Pep has made him work hard, he still moves him around the pitch.”

A superstar is born

So City have won a fourth straight Premier League title, and Foden has been absolutely central to it.

The star has been on a different level this season, and it has been amazing for City fans to watch him blossom from a great player to an out-and-out world-class performer.

The £225,000-a-week ace has fully vindicated Pep Guardiola’s decision not to send him out on loan all those years ago when he was breaking through.

Undoubtedly, he would not have enjoyed this journey had the manager not shown that faith in him.
