Jamie Carragher says £50m Liverpool player did something Jurgen Klopp 'couldn't believe' on his last game

Liverpool saw Jurgen Klopp off with a win in his final game as manager on Sunday.

It wasn’t the prettiest game in the end. With nothing riding on the result and the sun beating down at Anfield, Liverpool played out a comfortable 2-0 win.

In reality, with Wolves down to 10 men, it really should have been more. Harvey Elliott stole the show, but at times some of his teammates couldn’t live up to the same billing.

One who tried his best was Luis Diaz. The Colombian has been good recently and despite claims that he might leave Liverpool this summer, Diaz is reportedly happy at Anfield.

However, the 27-year-old will look back on this game knowing he should have scored. With Cody Gakpo squaring a lovely ball to him, Diaz somehow contrived to miss with the goal gaping. And according to Jamie Carragher, Klopp simply could not believe it.

Jurgen Klopp disbelief over Luis Diaz miss

It really was a shame that Liverpool couldn’t get that last, third goal of the day. A last one in front of the Kop for Klopp would have been a great moment.

Diaz should have had it. Gakpo did really well to round Jose Sa and slip it across goal to his teammate.

Running onto it within a yard or so from the goal, Diaz only needed to get his shot on target. It shouldn’t have been difficult.

But having caught it a little scruffily, the former Porto man let the ball shank up and hit the bar.

Klopp had a visible reaction to the miss sitting on the Anfield bench. Donned with his famous cap, the manager took it and buried his face in it.

Commentating for Sky Sports, Carragher noticed the reaction, claiming that the boss ‘couldn’t believe it.’

“Yeah he just catches it above the ankle,” said the Liverpool legend. “[Jurgen Klopp] Can’t believe it.”

Will Luis Diaz be at Liverpool next season?

This rather summed up Diaz’s season, really. At times he was excellent against Wolves, and was often Liverpool’s most likely outlet.

But when it came down to the crunch, Liverpool’s No.7 just couldn’t get the ball in the net.

This profligacy has led to suggestions that Reds fans wouldn’t necessarily mind seeing Diaz leave this summer.

And with PSG and Barcelona said to be circling, there is still the possibility that the forward could have just played his last game for Liverpool.

If that is to be true, then someone will have to stump up far more than the £50m the Reds paid for him in 2022. If not, he’ll be back and hoping to be more clinical next season.
