'Outstanding': Sky pundit claims £15m player is genuinely one of the best signings he's seen Man City make

Manchester City are champions of England again – and pundit Clinton Morrison heaped huge praise on one player during the game.

Manchester City beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Phil Foden scoring twice and Rodri also getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Mohammed Kudus scored against the run of play just before half-time to create a bit of tension.

But City managed to get the job done, and the latest title win puts the club into the history books as the first club to win four Premier Leagues in a row.

It has been a colossal effort from the players this season, after winning the Treble last time out. It cannot be easy to go from that high to try and do it all again.

But the motivation has been there, and everyone has played their part.

And one man who was brilliant once again today, was Manuel Akanji

Today City absolutely dominated West Ham, who somehow managed to get themselves a goal.

It was a fantastic goal from Kudus, but aside from that the visitors did not show much at all at the Etihad.

City just squeezed up and suffocated the Hammers.

The defenders had a fairly easy time of it, but that did not stop Clinton Morrison – who was on punditry duty for Sky Sports News – from raving about him.

He said as the player was being taken off by Guardiola: “Akanji has been outstanding, one of the best signings I have seen at Manchester City for much money they have paid.”

As per Sofascore, Akanji completed 73/78 (94%) passes, with one of those being ‘key’. He lost possession just six times.

What incredible business by City

When Akanji signed for City, it’s fair to say a few eyebrows were raised.

The Switzerland international was seen as a decent defender over in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, but not really a top player.

But at City he has been an absolute revelation.

City paid just £15 million to sign him – a fee that left Jamie Carragher surprised earlier this week – and when he plays he looks more like a £50 million signing.

Undoubtedly, he is one of the biggest bargains since the 2008 takeover, and it’s great to see that he has featured so heavily once again, because he deserves to.
