Four Nottingham Forest players might have played their last game today, including £4m-rated star

Nottingham Forest have officially retained their Premier League status after beating Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor this afternoon.

Two goals from Chris Wood inside the opening 14 minutes set the tone for Forest to claim a big three points.

Now, the challenge is to ensure that next season isn’t just a case of scrapping against relegation and there is lots of work to do.

Forest will hope to bring some quality to the City Ground but they will also be looking to clear some of the dead wood out too.

After today’s win, we’ve taken a look at the players who could now have made their last appearance for the club.

The Argentina international looks likely to be returning to Sevilla with the player failing to meet the criteria for his loan to become permanent.

Forest could actually sign Montiel for £4 million, with Sevilla keen to get him off their books this summer.

The 27-year-old started the game at right-back and actually produced a pretty decent performance despite a bang to the head early on.

Forest may look to sign another full-back during the summer transfer window but it feels very likely that Montiel will now be on his way.

This is one that we hope can get sorted out, with Wood finishing on 15 goals for the season.

Given that Wood is one of the higher-earning players in the squad, whether he stays or goes remains to be seen.

It would perhaps be strange for Forest to let the 32-year-old walk away for free and surely other Premier League clubs would look at him.

Replacing 15 goals in the Premier League wouldn’t be an easy thing to do but right now, Wood’s contract does expire this summer.

Willy Boly

Another player who is now out of contract is Boly and the club has a decision to make over the player.

When he’s been fit enough to play, Boly has been a quality addition to the squad but injuries have started to take over.

Forest must decide whether to offer him an extension and it will perhaps depend on whether the Reds have any plans to sign another defender.

Boly has been a very good signing since joining from Wolves but the challenge for Forest has been keeping him fit.

Cheikhou Kouyate

This one is a done deal and Kouyate was handed a brief cameo at the end of today’s game to say his goodbyes.

The player will leave when his contract expires and he’s proved a steady – if unspectacular – signing for the Reds.

Last season he added a bit of Premier League know-how to the ranks but this season it’s been a struggle for him to play.

In our view, the defensive midfielder will likely head to Saudi Arabia or the MLS to finish his career.
