'We know': Gary O'Neil ominously responds when asked about Che Adams after Wolves' defeat to Liverpool

Wolves lost their final game of the season against Liverpool – and after the game, Gary O’Neil was asked about transfer target Che Adams.

Wolves could not spoil Jurgen Klopp’s final game in charge of the Reds, losing 2-0 at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring for Liverpool, after Nelson Semedo got sent off for the visitors – a decision that Jamie Carragher thought was questionable.

Defender Jarell Quansah then scored a second.

Wolves kept going, and the likes of Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto both had chances. But the breakthrough didn’t come, and Wolves closed out the season with a defeat.

Fans are now hoping for a big summer.

One man who has been talked about a lot in recent days is Che Adams, and Gary O’Neil was asked about him after the defeat to Liverpool.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Wolves had entered into talks with Che Adams about a potential summer swoop.

The striker is out of contract at the end of June, and it is looking like he will be moving on from St. Mary’s Stadium.

Wolves have been linked for quite a while now, and tried to land him ahead of the 2023/24 season, but the Saints blocked them at the eleventh hour. Interest was then shown in January.

It is now no secret that Wolves like the player – and after the defeat to Liverpool O’Neil appeared to suggest something is in the offing.

He said as quoted by Nathan Judah: “Still under contract at Southampton, they’ve still got a massive game to play.

“We know he’s out of contract and we know he’s a number 9.”

Wolves need to get Adams in quickly and set the tone

There is something quite ominous about this response from O’Neil about Adams.

We all know that Wolves are after a centre-forward and O’Neil is potentially hinting here that something is in the pipeline.

It would be really positive if the club could get this deal done nice and early to set the tone for the summer.

A number of fans are currently feeling a little disappointed with the way the season has finished, with results really poor for the last couple of months.

But if the club announced that Adams is coming in on a free transfer, this will at least signal intent ahead of next season. Fans want to see Wolves nice and productive ahead of 2024/25, so that O’Neil and the team have a chance to kick on.
