Eddie Howe has just confirmed £40m Newcastle United player will not travel to Australia

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has provided an update on Anthony Gordon after he missed the final game of the season.

The 23-year-old was an injury doubt to face Brentford after picking up a knock during the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United. Anthony Gordon hurt his ankle after a challenge from Sofyan Amrabat that shockingly did not result in a penalty kick being given.

It also resulted in him missing a game due to injury for the first time during what has been a gruelling season. Newcastle United have had so many injury problems, and finally they resulted in Gordon being unavailable.

We had expected him to be fit, but he was nowhere to be seen when Newcastle arrived to face Brentford. It did not matter in the end, with the Magpies winning 4-2 to ensure they finished the Premier League season in seventh. Gordon’s replacement even scored, with Harvey Barnes netting Newcastle’s opener with a brilliant header.

Newcastle United head to Australia after Brentford win

Newcastle now face a nervous wait to discover whether or not they have qualified for Europe. That will depend on what happens in the FA Cup final next weekend, with Eddie Howe’s side needing Manchester City to win.

Before that, the Magpies are off to Australia. The Newcastle squad are now going down under for two post-season friendlies, as they prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur and the A-League All Stars in Melbourne.

It is a trip that Kieran Trippier is not too happy about, while Eddie Howe has provided an update on whether or not Gordon will be travelling to Australia.

Eddie Howe shares if Anthony Gordon will travel to Australia

Following Newcastle’s 4-2 win over Brentford, Howe told reporters that the £40million man will not be joining the rest of the Toon squad in Australia.

Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope wrote on X: “Eddie Howe confirms Anthony Gordon won’t go to Australia. Had scan on injured ankle but Howe says “we don’t think it’s too serious”. England squad named on Tuesday & Gareth Southgate was here today.”

Gordon is desperate to go to Euro 2024 with England

Howe does not think the injury is too serious, and hopefully that is the case.

While the competitive season is over for Newcastle, it could be a very big summer for Gordon. He is hoping to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros, and he certainly deserves to be included.

It has been a special season for Gordon, who has scored 11 Premier League goals and provided 10 assists. His form should earn him a place on the plane to Germany, but this injury casts doubt over his availability.

Hopefully he is fit enough to be selected, as he could have a major impact for England, just like he has in a Newcastle United shirt this season.
