'What a player'... Luke Shaw hails 'top' Man Utd ace after Brighton display, Lisandro Martinez agrees

Manchester United emerged 2-0 victors against Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the Premier League season.

The final game of Erik ten Hag’s second campaign in the English top flight thankfully ends in a win, although it did no favours at all to the Red Devils’ final place in the league table.

Still, it was nice to see Manchester United players, and fans, smiling once again at the end of a fixture. Some were more elated than others, with some definite stand-out performers on the day.

These include the likes of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Andre Onana – but the best player on the pitch had to be Diogo Dalot.

Diogo Dalot hailed by Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez vs Brighton

Much like he has been all season, the Portuguese full-back was one of Manchester United’s shining lights on the pitch. He got the first on the day but also contributed immensely with a fine showing at left-back.

His all-round game has improved so much throughout the 23/24 campaign, which puts him in the position of one of the front runners for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season Award.

His contributions against the Seagulls were recognized by his teammates. Taking to Instagram, Dalot posted the following message: ‘Best way to push us to next weekend at Wembley 💪🏻 Always special to score for this club❤️’

Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez responded to this with the following messages.

Diogo Dalot has stepped up in Luke Shaw’s injury absence

Shaw, when fit, is one of Manchester United’s best players. He’s an integral part of what makes the side tick, which is why he’s been a big loss this season.

Dalot has stepped up to fill this void to the best of his abilities and has done a cracking job. Considering it is technically not his favoured position, the fact he’s still thriving is a telling sign of the quality player the Red Devils have on their hands.

In a season filled with doom and gloom, Dalot’s rise has been a nice thing to watch from Manchester United fans’ perspective. Long may it continue.
