Port Charlotte Man Shot And Killed At North Jetty Park In Nokomis

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. - Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting at the North Jetty Park at 100 Casey Key Rd. in Nokomis Sunday evening at approximately 7:16 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies found one deceased victim, identified as 25-year-old Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. of Port Charlotte.

It is believed the shooting resulted from an argument that occurred at the park.

"This matter is still an active investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900 or Sarasota Crimestoppers at 941-366-8477," said SCSO.

The North Jetty Park was closed during the investigation Sunday evening and early Monday morning. It has since been reopened. This shooting appears to have been an isolated incident, and there are no known concerns to the public.
