Tottenham have just broken Premier League club record in victory over Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur have now done something no other Spurs side has been able to match in the Premeir League era.

After a disappointing month or so in the Premier League for Tottenham, the game against Sheffield United required at least a point to secure Europa League football.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have shown a lot of promising signs going into next season, but there have been some underwhelming performances of late.

A comfortable victory over Sheffield United was secured with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro, though.

It was a game which saw Tottenham put the Premier League’s bottom side to the sword as they gave their goal difference a healthy boost.

As Spurs cruised to three points and Europa League football, the Lilywhites also set themselves a new Premier League record.

Tottenham break Premier League record in Sheffield United win

Three points in the bag, three goals scored and a three-point gap to Chelsea in sixth place saw Spurs end the season in style.

The curtain has been drawn on Postecoglou’s first campaign as the Tottenham manager and it has certainly seen its fair share of ups and downs.

However, this summer is going to see more change brought to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the Australian saying there will be player exits.

But considering Spurs lost their record goalscorer in Harry Kane, Postecoglou’s side have not fared too badly with a fifth-placed finish.

Scoring three on the final day of the campaign saw Tottenham net an impressive 74 goals over the course of the 2023/24 league campaign.

This is the highest number of goals scored by Spurs in a Premier League season since its inception in 1992.

Although Kane may have left behind a 30-goal hole after his displays last season, Spurs have still been able to add a further four goals on their total from the 2022/23 campaign.

Considering Spurs have also gone the large majority of the season without an out-and-out striker, this could be a record which may be broken once again next season if a striker is signed.

What Ange Postecoglou said about his first season at Tottenham

Although Spurs still face a trip to Australia with a game against Newcastle United to come on Wednesday, Tottenham’s Premier League campaign is completed.

It was Postecoglou’s first campaign not just as the Tottenham manager but also in the Premier League.

Speaking after the game at Bramall Lane, the 58-year-old commented on his first season in N17.

“It’s been good, it’s been eventful, it’s had a bit of everything,” he told the media.

“I am obviously not delighted with the way we finished the season but in fairness to the players and staff we have been in the top five all season, in a year where there was a fair bit of upheaval, we finished eighth last year, player turnover, different football, different way of training, it is not easy to maintain a level when you are trying to do that.”
