‘Hilarious’: Jeff Stelling reacts as Ally McCoist explains ‘brilliant’ Trophy Day celebration at Celtic Park

Celtic’s Trophy Day celebrations have created a lot of special memories for the fans, the players and especially for Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager’s first season back at the club was fraught with pressure as he had to deal with an unusual media narrative, winning over the fans and horrendous injury issues that really hampered the defence of the Scottish Premiership title.

However, Rodgers overcame all that adversity to seal Celtic’s third title in a row which sparked a superb day of celebrations after Celtic beat St Mirren 3-2 at Parkhead.

However, there was a brilliant moment just before the trophy presentation when Santa Claus was whisked out to present the trophy to the podium.

The Celtic fans all know the story behind this gesture but when Ally McCoist explained it to Jeff Stelling on talkSPORT this morning, both presenters couldn’t hold back their laughter at the iconic Celtic Park moment.

Stelling: “Explain to me by the way, Celtic being presented the Scottish Premiership trophy by Santa Claus.”

McCoist: “Well, you know the story? The story is hilarious. When they were going through a not-so-successful period they booed Santa.”

Stelling: “They booed Santa?”

McCoist: “I mean, what stage has your club got to be if you are booing Santa Claus?”

Stelling: “Brilliant.”

McCoist: “However, they did the right thing and they got Santa back for the big day. So fair play to them.”

It really was a great addition to the celebrations as Celtic and the fans poked fun at themselves for booing the big man at Christmas.

That gesture will be remembered for a long time just like the send-off Joe Hart received as this Trophy Day was, without doubt, one of the most emotional ones we have seen at Celtic recently.

For Santa, he can go back to Lapland and enjoy the rest of the year whilst Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, prepares his wishlist for the Celtic board for this summer’s transfer window to prepare for next season’s Champions League group stages.
