£14 million man is open to leaving West Ham this summer - report

West Ham United could lose one player who’s open to leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui will replace David Moyes as the new West Ham manager, and he has apparently told the board that he intends to lead us on into the Champions League.

In order to do just that, the Spaniard will need to make some top quality signings this summer – he’s apparently already eyeing up six new recruits.

However, moving on some of the deadwood will be just as important as signing new players will be this summer.

In order to comply with the new PSR regulations, West Ham will definitely have to balance the books by moving certain players on.

It will certainly be a really exciting summer for the Hammers fans, with numerous incomings and outgoings expected.

There are plenty of fringe players who have contributed next to nothing this season. However, there is someone who was very highly rated indeed when he moved to the London Stadium who could be sent packing this summer…

£14 million man open to leaving West Ham in the summer window

There will clearly be big changes at the London Stadium this summer.

The squad left behind by Moyes really isn’t fit for purpose when you look closely. If Lucas Paqueta leaves this summer, we will have only six first-team players under the age of 29!

That quite simply isn’t good enough, and Lopetegui needs to address the ageing nature of our squad asap.

Especially when considering that one of those six players wants to leave the club!

According to a report from The Athletic, midfielder Flynn Downes is open to leaving West Ham in the summer transfer window.

It was only last week when Downes insisted that he’d love to play for Southampton again next season, rather than return to the London Stadium.

The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Swansea City for around £14 million in the summer of 2022 (Wales Online).

Downes wasn’t given sufficient opportunities to shine under David Moyes, but there is a school of thought that he’s perhaps not good enough to play at the very highest level.

If West Ham sell the midfielder to Southampton for a reasonable fee in the summer transfer window, I think it will suit all parties involved.
