Ilkay Gundogan reacts with 22 words as Manchester City clinch another Premier League title

Manchester City won the Premier League title on Sunday – and former captain Ilkay Gundogan gave his reaction on social media.

City made history by winning the Premier League for the fourth year in a row, beating West Ham United 3-1 on the final day at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden bragged a brace, with Rodri scoring in the second-half.

Mohammed Kudus scored a sensational bicycle kick for the visitors against the run of play.

But that was West Ham’s only moment, on what was a relatively comfortable afternoon for the hosts in the end.

Pep Guardiola has now delivered six Premier League titles for City, and winning four in a row will cement him as the greatest manager of all-time for many.

Some wondered how City would get on this season after the ultimate high of winning the Treble. The club also lost some huge players last summer – one of those being Ilkay Gundogan.

The final day was a lot less stressful than in previous years.

That sensational goal from Phil Foden early doors really helped to settle City, and it really was a dominant performance, despite the margin being just two goals in the end.

We have seen much more dramatic affairs, such as when Ilkay Gundogan scored twice in the 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa two years ago.

Gundogan left City last summer to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

The former captain was one of Pep’s greatest signings for the club and on Sunday night, he reacted with 22 words to City’s latest triumph, writing on X: “Happy to have read after our game today: @mancity has made it again. Congrats to my former teammates – another great achievement!”

Fantastic from Man City

As Gundogan says, this is a great achievement by the current crop of players at Manchester City.

Winning the Treble is the ultimate high. So it takes a lot to then pick yourself up again and show high standards and maintain them throughout the season.

Some felt City may have dropped off this year, and at times it looked like that could be the case. But since the turn of the year, Pep’s side have just been incredible.

In the end, the team did not really miss the man some people referred to as ‘title race Gundogan’.

The German – who Micah Richards recently said has ‘got everything’ – often came in clutch for City in the final third of the season, and some feared he would be missed this time around with Arsenal laying down a strong challenge.

But Foden ended up replacing his goals from midfield, and several others really stepped up on route to Premier League title number eight for the club.
