Report: What Chelsea are not going to do this transfer window which could upset Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino could be an unhappy man if he remains at Chelsea this summer.

Despite Mauricio Pochettinoguiding Chelsea to sixth and securing European football for the club, his future is still in doubt.

The Argentine is approaching the final 12 months of his two-year contract and other managers are being linked with his position in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

It was recently claimed that Chelsea have identified Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna as a potential candidate to replace Pochettino.

There is no guarantee that the 52-year-old will leave, but if he remains in west London, there could be a bit of a problem this summer.

Could Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino be about to clash over the club’s transfer strategy?

Pochettino has hinted in the past that he has concerns about the lack of experience in Chelsea’s squad.

When he was asked if Chelsea have enough balance between youth and experience in February, he said (via Evening Standard): “At the moment, maybe it’s not so good. If not, we could be in another position. It’s obvious.”

However, it does not look like the club are ready to change their transfer strategy, which suggests a bit of conflict could be on the horizon.

According to The Athletic, despite Pochettino hinting that he would like more experience in his squad, Chelsea have no appetite to deviate from their youth-focused transfer strategy.

Chelsea can claim their strategy is starting to work

It is true. Chelsea obviously have brought in a lot of young players recently, and the fact that they do not even have a guaranteed spot in next season’s Europa League shows that their strategy is yet to bring success.

However, the club are starting to benefit from it when you look at how the likes of Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto have performed.

Palmer joined Chelsea as a 21-year-old, but that did not stop him from finishing the season with the most goal contributions in the Premier League.

Gusto just turned 21, meaning he had a solid debut campaign in England at just 20 years of age. The Frenchman registered nine assists in all competitions, which is a good number for a right-back.

Chelsea, then, will feel that their current approach to transfer windows is justified.
