Report: What Arsenal are now aware of as they hope to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United

If Arsenal had a striker like Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, they might be Premier League champions right now.

But the Gunners have ended the season as runners-up, with Manchester City clinching the title on the final day. They now have the chance to do the double, as they face Manchester United in an FA Cup final that is very important for Newcastle United and their European aspirations.

As for Arsenal, they are trying to work out how they can go again next season and challenge Man City for the ultimate prize in English football. Mikel Arteta knows that means getting a consistent goalscorer, which is why they are interested in Alexander Isak.

The 24-year-old has been prolific this season, netting his 21st Premier League goal of the year as Newcastle ended the campaign with a 4-2 win over Brentford. Isak was absolutely incredible, and has since been hailed as ‘world class’ by Dan Burn.

Where Arsenal currently stand with their Alexander Isak interest

That is why Arsenal would love to have him at the Emirates, with Isak their number one target heading into the summer transfer window. However, they do not appear to be confident about signing the Sweden international.

According to the Independent, Arsenal know that Newcastle United will most likely turn down any approaches to sell their top scorer.

It seems as though Arsenal do not expect to land the Magpies’ most expensive signing ever, although the Independent state that they will at least look into whether or not a deal is possible.

But they want to get their business done quickly, which could force the Gunners to go with plan b.

The same report adds that Arsenal’s next striker target is Brian Brobbery, a Dutch forward who has done very well for Ajax this season. He has scored more goals than any Arsenal player, but has not found the net as regularly as Isak.

As the data shows, Arsenal’s strikers have not delivered. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah only got 14 goals between them all season, with other players having to chip in.

Scoring goals is not the issue for the Gunners, but they do need a reliable centre forward. That is what Isak would be, having established himself as the best striker in the Premier League after Erling Haaland.

But he is going to cost a crazy amount of money, as the Newcastle United owners absolutely do not want to sell him. He is a player who Eddie Howe wants to build his team around, and rightly so.

That is why Arsenal might have to take a risk and go for someone like Brobbery, who is untested in England.

As for Isak, Newcastle could soon make him their highest paid player to well and truly fend off any interest in him.
