Report: Chelsea would have no problem paying £51m for 'complete footballer' this summer

Chelsea are unlikely to find it difficult to find the funds for one player this summer.

With the transfer window opening soon, Chelsea will have the chance to strengthen their squad and boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League in the 2024/25 season.

Midfield is one area that may need to be addressed, with Conor Gallagher’s contract running down.

His deal expires next year and he has recently been linked with a move to Aston Villa, so a Stamford Bridge exit this summer does not look impossible.

With Gallagher possibly set to leave Chelsea, the club could potentially turn to Serie A for a replacement.

Chelsea could join Manchester United and Arsenal in race for midfielder

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all seem to have one midfielder on their radar.

According to TuttoJuve, in addition to United and Arsenal, Chelsea have now put Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners on their list.

The Italian outlet claims that while Juventus, who are also interested in Koopmeiners, cannot spend €60m on the 26-year-old, Chelsea would have no problem doing such.

Koopmeiners has been a key player for Atalanta this season.

In total, the Dutchman has made 32 appearances in Serie A and scored 12 goals.

Teun Koopmeiners could be a good Conor Gallagher replacement for Chelsea

Like Gallagher, Koopmeiners has played as an attacking midfielder this term but can operate much deeper as well.

Ajax legend Ruud Krol has also described Koopmeiners as a “complete footballer”.

Ultimately, it looks like the Netherlands international could be a suitable replacement for Gallagher, but Chelsea would probably just be better off keeping hold of the 24-year-old.

He has been such a key player for Mauricio Pochettino, making 50 appearances in all competitions, and cost Chelsea nothing.

There is still time to sort out his contract situation, but whether that will get addressed is still totally up in the air. Right now, it looks more unlikely than likely, unfortunately.
