A school has celebrated the opening of an exciting new addition.

The Basildon School Association announced at the end of 2019 it had raised enough funds to start its forest school.

But then the pandemic hit and the costs soon doubled.

Now, almost four years later, the forest school was completed at the end of February.

And it celebrated its opening at a ceremony in Upper Basildon earlier this month, which featured music and a cake sale.

Chair of PTA, Caireen Reed, said: “Me and my committee have worked tirelessly on fundraising events from wreath-making workshops, bingo evenings to providing refreshments at every school production.

“All of these fundraisers meant we had enough money to proceed with the forest school.

“Work started at the beginning of this year and we officially opened the forest school on May 10, where we had a bar, bake sale and music after school.

“The area is such a welcomed addition.

“It’s a wonderful space that can be used for outdoor learning as well as used at break times.”
