Tottenham Hotspur priced out of move to sign ‘top talent’ from Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur have secured Europa League football for next season after beating Sheffield United 2-0 on the final day of the season.

Tottenham had lost five out of six before heading to Bramall Lane on Sunday.

A clash against the already-relegated Blades seemed like the ideal chance for Spurs to get back on track after a testing week.

Ange Postecoglou wanted to put the defeat to Manchester City – and all of the furore around that game – firmly behind him as Spurs ended the campaign on the road.

Tottenham travelled to South Yorkshire and came home with a 3-0 win.

Dejan Kulusevski bagged a brace, scoring either side of a powerful Pedro Porro goal.

Aston Villa to price Tottenham out over Jacob Ramsey

Tottenham must now go and improve over the course of the summer transfer window.

A number of players look likely to move on this summer and Postecoglou will be desperate to add quality to his side.

Tottenham may look towards homegrown players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi or Kyle Walker-Peters, but a deal for Jacob Ramsey seems unlikely.

The Telegraph report that Tottenham are admirers of Aston Villa ace Ramsey, alongside Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Sadly for Spurs, it’s suggested that Villa’s valuation of Ramsey is set to price all suitors out of a potential summer move.

It’s noted that Ramsey would only be sold if Villa find themselves absolutely desperate for cash this summer.

Villa have just pipped Tottenham to fourth place in the Premier League, meaning they will be in the Champions League next season.

Villa shouldn’t be under financial pressure as a result, but Ramsey would count as pure profit as a homegrown player.

That could have made him an attractive sale but Tottenham seemingly won’t be able to prise Ramsey away from Villa this summer.

Frustrating season for Ramsey

22-year-old Ramsey looked poised to make a real push for the England Euro 2024 squad this season.

Ramsey hit six goals and seven assists in the Premier League last season, taking his game to another level.

Branded a ‘top talent’ by Steven Gerrard, Ramsey looked set for another step forward under Unai Emery.

Sadly, injury problems have plagued Ramsey this season as he has suffered foot, hamstring and toe problems over the course of the campaign.

That means that Ramsey has only managed eight Premier League starts and another eight substitute appearances.

Ramsey hasn’t played since the 2nd of March, missing the final two-and-a-half months of the campaign.

What looked like such a promising campaign for Ramsey has ultimately turned out to be incredibly frustrating.

Tottenham splashing big money on Ramsey after an injury-hit season would have been bold, especially after so many injuries in the Spurs squad this season, and it now looks like Spurs will have to look elsewhere for a new signing in midfield.
