£7m West Ham player has just been named in a Premier League Team of the Season

A £7m West Ham United player has just been named in a Premier League Team of the Season.

The Hammers have endured a rocky season, by all accounts, but ended the campaign in ninth on 52 points.

David Moyes is now set to depart the club after two spells, with Julen Lopetegui lined up as his successor.

They’ve had to see many of their London rivals receive much of the plaudits this term, though, one West Ham player has been named in a Team of the Season.

Alphonse Areola named in Premier League Team of the Season

Sofascore released their Premier League Team of the Season after the final round of Premier League games and Alphonse Areola was in it.

Here it is, in full.

  • Alphonse Areola (West Ham United)
  • James Tarkowski (Everton)
  • Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
  • Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City)
  • Rodri (Manchester City)
  • Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
  • Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)
  • Phil Foden (Manchester City)
  • Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
  • Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
  • Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

Areola, who joined The Hammers from Paris Saint-Germain for £7.75m in 2022, had an average rating of 7.36 across his 31 Premier League appearances.

His good form since joining West Ham has made him a regular of the French national team’s squad and he looks set to jet off to Germany this summer for the fast-approaching EUROs.

Alphonse Areola is entering his prime

Aged 31, Areola is only just entering his prime years as a goalkeeper which is an exciting proposition for the incoming Lopetegiui.

The former Real Madrid man still has at least five years at the peak of his game and if he can build on this season, he could become one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

We might not have seen the best of Areola yet, who is under contract until 2027.
