First responders search for missing light aircraft in Charing near Ashford

Emergency services are searching for a light aircraft following reports it was experiencing difficult conditions.

Firefighters are using drones to try and locate the vehicle in Charing, near Ashford.

A spokesperson for the fire service added: ”Five fire engines are in attendance, as well as a technical rescue team, with crews using drones to scour an area of woodland off Pluckley Road.

“Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service are also there.

“People are advised to avoid the area while the search continues.

“Please share this information with loved ones in the affected area who may not have access to the internet.”

One resident said he saw emergency services arriving on the scene near Pluckley Road and was told “a light aircraft had crashed in field”.

A Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) are also assisting in the operation, which got underway at approximately 4.23pm today (Monday).

Police and SECAmb have been contacted for comment.
