'Absolutely brilliant': Steve Hodge hails Nottingham Forest star with nine assists this season

Nottingham Forest finished their 2023/24 campaign with a 2-1 away win at Burnley on Sunday – and Steve Hodge raved about one player.

The Reds won thanks to two goals from Chris Wood. It ensured that he reached the 15-goal mark for the campaign and cemented Forest’s status in the Premier League.

Forest were one goal to the good after a little under 80 seconds and scored again on 14 minutes. Josh Cullen reduced the deficit on 72 minutes.

Hodge was impressed with one of the architects for the Forest goals. He raved about him as he watched on from the stands at Turf Moor.

What Steve Hodge said about Anthony Elanga

It’s been a good season for Anthony Elanga after joining Forest for £15 million from Manchester United.

He was in fine form again on Sunday and had another assist – his ninth of the season – to his name after under two minutes.

Hodge was impressed and raved about him live on BBC Radio Nottingham.

He said: “It’s absolutely brilliant from Elanga on the right wing, right foot, whipped cross. There’s Wood at the back stick with a left-footed volley. Brilliant.”

Elanga was substituted during the contest but this was still a pretty solid performance and he will be delighted with his 14 goal contributions this season.

More to come for Elanga at Forest

It’s been a brilliant first season for Elanga at Forest and Hodge was right to praise him at the weekend.

The 22-year-old had Charlie Taylor on toast every time he went forward – and the Burnley defender isn’t the first to suffer that fate this season.

The challenge staring Elanga in the face is consistency. He will want to be producing the goods more frequently and improve on his end product.

Although Elanga has five goals to his name this season, there is an argument that he could have scored a few more with a bit more composure.

That’s only a minor criticism though and at £15 million, Elanga looks like a steal from a Forest perspective.
