'I love being here': £30k-a-week Wolves player makes his feelings clear amid interest from other clubs

Joao Gomes has sent a message on social media that Wolves fans will appreciate, with the player having been linked with an exit recently.

The Wanderers midfielder has just finished his first full season at Molineux after signing for the club midway through 2022/23.

Joao Gomes made 38 appearances across all competitions, striking up a fantastic partnership with Mario Lemina in the engine room which has gone from strength to strength.

There was a bit of pressure on Gomes ahead of this season. Former captain Ruben Neves had just departed, and the Brazilian took his number eight jersey and starting spot in the midfield.

But Gomes has absolutely excelled and in all honesty, he can count himself a tad unlucky not to have made the Premier League Young Player of the Season shortlist.

As a result of his brilliance there has been a bit of talk about his future, with clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United having been linked with a summer move for him.

But the player sent a message on social media last night that will put some fans’ minds at rest about the situation…

Gomes was a breath of fresh air for Wolves in 2023/24.

He had dipped his toe in the Premier League last season, after making a move to the club from Flamengo, but was largely watching from the bench as Julen Lopetegui fielding the likes of Lemina, Neves and Joao Moutinho.

But this term, Gary O’Neil has turned to him from the off – and the South American dubbed ‘The Pitbull’ has not let his manager down.

The £30,000-a-week dynamo has been a constant ball of energy in the midfield, earning plaudits for his ball-winning ability in particular. Former Wolves man Dave Edwards claimed earlier this year that he has never seen a better ball-winner than him in a Wolves shirt.

It has been little surprise to see other clubs getting linked with him.

Manchester United, under new ownership now, are said to be keen, while Arsenal have also been linked with a summer swoop.

But it seems that Gomes isn’t particularly looking to leave with the message he posted on X last night. He wrote: “I love being here.”

Wolves must keep Gomes this summer

This message from Gomes is definitely encouraging, because those transfer links have been getting a bit to frequent recently for a lot of people’s liking.

The South American has been a joy to watch in the midfield this season, and there is a feeling that Wolves have a special player on their hands.

To sell this summer would be very disappointing. He has only been at the club since January 2023, and there is so much more room for him to develop under O’Neil.

If Wolves can hang onto him for another year or two, his market value should soar and the club could be looking at making a very big profit. They should not be tempted to offload in this coming window.
