Owners of Nottinghamshire Boat Training raised funds for Newark Crusader

A business-owning couple has raised funds for a charity that provides cruises for care homes, special needs, the community and educational groups.

Katy Parker and her husband Stuart Parker, who runs Nottinghamshire Boat Training held a stall on behalf of Royal Yachting Association to raise money for Newark Crusader.

The couple raised £250 with their stall at Farndon’s Marina open day on Saturday (May 19) through a £5 ticket raffle.

The raffle’s main prize was a powerboat level two worth £290 which includes a two-day entry-level course that provides skills and knowledge to drive a powerboat.

The other prize included a chocolate bouquet.

“As our business is associated with boating and we regularly see the good work that is involved in running the Crusader and the volunteers who make it possible we chose this charity in the hope that it might make a small difference,” said Katy.

She added: “It is important to keep funding up so that the boat continues to be available for special needs, disabled and elderly people and groups within the community.

“It gives them the opportunity to experience a boat trip on the Trent and see the wildlife and tranquil surroundings it has to offer, both of which give massive health benefits.”

The Newark Crusader leaves its base at Newark Marina.

The Newark Crusader is a charity run entirely by volunteers who are able to provide the pre-booked River Cruises alongside the River Trent to elderly, disabled and disadvantaged groups.

The couple is hoping to do similar events in the future to support the charity boat, which has been sailing from Newark Marina since the 90s.
