'As far as I'm aware': Fabrizio Romano drops update on Wolves star Pedro Neto amid asking price claim

The season is over for Wolves and attention can now turn to the summer – and journalist Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on Pedro Neto this morning.

Gary O’Neil‘s side finished 14th in the Premier League, taking 49 points from 38 games.

It is a final tally that some are actually a little disappointed with, considering Wolves were in contention for European football a couple of months back. But injuries have hit hard, as have a number of VAR decisions.

Ultimately, 14th is a decent finish considering the chaos of last summer, and there have been many promising signs in O’Neil’s first term as head coach.

Expectations will be a lot bigger for 2024/25, but Wolves’ squad could see a lot of change ahead of that campaign.

One man who may not be a part of it is Pedro Neto and this morning, Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation…

Wolves don’t have to sell players this summer with the financial situation much healthier compared to this time last year.

However, making one of two big sales could help O’Neil to rebuild the squad, and get more bodies in. He will likely not want a repeat of 2023/24 in terms of the squad being so small.

It was reported on Monday that Wolves have now slapped a £60 million asking price on Neto, amid interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United. That would suggest the club are open to doing business.

But Fabrizio Romano has reported that no one has made an approach for the Portugal international yet.

He said in his Daily Briefing: “It remains the case that nothing is close or imminent for Pedro Neto. He has been linked with Arsenal in the past and there have also been new rumours about Manchester City and Newcastle, but Wolves will ask for a big, big package of money.

“It won’t come cheap at all. So many clubs are informed but no one has started concrete talks yet, as far as I’m aware.”

Big sale needs to come early for Wolves

It is commonplace for clubs to lay the groundwork on transfers before the window has even opened. But it sounds like clubs are yet to come calling for Neto.

Ideally, Wolves will make a big sale fairly early this summer.

If Neto is to go, then it’s in Wolves’ best interests to get a deal done nice and early, as opposed to the end of the window when there is more pressure.

A number of players have been linked with exits from Molineux but Neto ought to be the one that gets offloaded, as opposed to the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri or Joao Gomes, who last night stated that he loves being at Wolves.

Neto has been at Wolves now since 2019 and it somewhat feels as though it’s his ‘time’ to depart. As good as he is, Wolves have shown they can be OK without him, and the money from his sale can be reinvested.

It is too soon to sell Ait-Nouri or Gomes, because their market values can shoot up much higher in the next year, whereas Neto’s may not go too much higher given his injury record.
