Chelsea now close to signing attacker who wants to play under Pochettino, they've already spoken - journalist

Chelsea will reportedly soon sign a player that has the ambition to play under Mauricio Pochettino.

While the transfer rumours begin to fly in following the end of the season, the more pressing issue is around whether or not Mauricio Pochettino will continue in his role as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino guided Chelsea to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League during his first year in charge of a young squad, but the talk is that there will be an imminent discussion about his future.

The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea and Pochettino will soon decide his future when they sit down for a scheduled end-of-season review. So, will the 52-year-old continue next season into the second year of a two-year contract?

Chelsea close to signing attacker that wants to work with Mauricio Pochettino

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now claimed via Simon Phillips’ Substack that Chelsea will officially sign Estevao Willian from Brazilian club Palmeiras this week.

It is explained that the teenage attacker will sign for the Blues in a deal worth €65m (£56m). Incidentally, the South American wonderkid is still aged 17, so will have to wait until 2025 and his 18th birthday to join up with the Chelsea squad.

Jacobs adds that Estevao hopes he works under Pochettino when he does link up with Chelsea. Apparently, the Blues boss has already spoken directly with the imminent teenage signing.

Elsewhere, Globo Esporte just claimed that Palmeiras are hoping to finalise the sale of Estevao to Chelsea in the coming days.

Estevao Willian another reason to keep Mauricio Pochettino

The conversation between Estevao and Pochettino is the latest in a long list of reasons why Chelsea should keep their manager this summer.

It’s obvious with five wins from the final five games of the league season that Pochettino is finally starting to get a tune out of his Chelsea youngsters. Unfortunately, it’s just taken them some time to gel over the course of the season.

He’s well-renowned as a great coach of young talents, so we can certainly see the appeal for Estevao.

If Chelsea continue this path of investing in stars for the future, Pochettino may be the perfect man in the job at the perfect time.
