Five former Arsenal stars spotted in Emirates crowd v Everton, including FA Cup hero

A number of familiar faces were spotted around the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as Arsenal ended their season with a win over Everton.

Whilst Arsenal were not able to claim their first Premier League title triumph since 2004 on Sunday, there was still an air of positivity in North London.

Arsenal fans were praised for the atmosphere they generated at the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side signed off on their campaign in style with a 2-1 win over the Toffees.

Arteta addressed supporters after the final whistle, promising greater successes would come in the future.

Amongst the crowd to hear his speech were a host of former Arsenal players.

Five former Arsenal stars who attended final match against Everton

Theo Walcott

Theo Walcott spent over ten years on the books with the North London club, making nearly 400 appearances and scoring over 100 goals. The former winger was spotted in the stands by X user @afc_cat.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a fine career with the Gunners. However, Walcott recently revealed that many Arsenal fans still haven’t forgiven him for the goal he scored against Arteta’s side last season.

Carl Jenkinson

Boyhood Arsenal fan Carl Jenkinson left the club on a permanent basis in 2019, after making 70 appearances. He has since enjoyed spells with Nottingham Forest and Melbourne City. The once-capped former England international is still plying his trade in Australia for Newcastle Jets.

However, the right-back returned from down under for Sunday’s season finale, as documented by Arsenal fan @trickyredsfc on X.

Per Mertesacker

Per Mertesacker still holds a position at Arsenal as head of the club’s Hale End academy system. He has overseen the youth setup since hanging up his boots in 2018. The German defender ended his playing career at Arsenal with 221 appearances and three FA Cup triumphs under his belt. He produced a heroic performance in the 2017 final of the competition, as Arsenal overcame Chelsea.

Edu

Like Mertesacker, sporting director Edu is still in place at Arsenal on a daily basis. With the players now about to enjoy a well-earned break, his work behind the scenes is just getting started as the Gunners have plenty of business to conduct in the upcoming summer transfer window. Edu is insistent that Arsenal already have their key targets identified.

In his playing days, the Brazilian midfielder won two Premier League titles with Arsenal, and was part of the iconic Invincibles squad who won the league in 2004 after an unbeaten campaign. Edu posted on Instagram on Sunday, celebrating Arsenal’s season.

Johan Djourou

Johan Djourou made the last of his 140 Arsenal appearances in 2012, before embarking on a nomadic career which saw him feature for Hannover 96, Hamburger SV, Antalyaspor, SPAL, Sion, Neuchatel Xamax, and Nordsjaelland.

As shown by a post on his personal Instagram account, the 76-cap former Switzerland was in attendance as Arsenal beat Everton in the company of his daughters.
