Harvey Elliott explains what the Liverpool squad ‘need to show’ Arne Slot when he joins

Having said a tearful goodbye to Jurgen Klopp on Sunday, Liverpool fans are getting ready to welcome Arne Slot to the club.

Slot was confirmed as the man to follow Klopp on Monday and will officially become the new head coach on June 1st.

As sad a time as it has been for Liverpool supporters, there is also excitement in the air. And it isn’t just the fans who are getting geared up to welcome Slot and his new coaching team, the Liverpool squad are getting used to the idea of the 45-year-old, too.

One of those who could stand to do well under Slot is Harvey Elliott. The 21-year-old has had a superb end to the season, racking up assist after assist.

That culminated in another man of the match performance at Anfield on Sunday. And as Elliott prepares to meet his new boss, he’s given Slot an idea of what to expect.

Harvey Elliott sends Arne Slot message

Elliott couldn’t really be doing much more than he is at the moment. The England U21 international has been one of Liverpool’s best players for the past few months.

Obviously, things could change quite drastically under Slot. But for the time being, he’s comfortably in Liverpool’s best XI.

In many ways, it’s a shame for Elliott that Klopp is leaving. The outgoing manager was always his No.19’s biggest fan.

Nevertheless, Elliott has told liverpoolfc.com that he’s ‘excited’ to learn under the new boss and is keen for he and his teammates to show Slot what it means to be at Liverpool.

“We’re all very excited for it,” said the midfielder. “It’s a new chapter, it’s a new challenge for everyone and it’s a fresh start. Us as players, we need to enjoy it, we need to be excited for it as well.

“We need to show the new gaffer the ways of Liverpool, but Jurgen and his coaching have definitely left something here. It’s all credit to himself and the coaching staff. We just need to enjoy it and in the summertime we can do the thinking and get ready for the next season.”

Harvey Elliott set to get even better

Although he hasn’t always been starting for Liverpool this season, it has been a campaign of real progress for Elliott.

Even when he wasn’t getting into the XI, the former Fulham youngster tended to make an impact off the bench. Still only 21, he looks primed to kick on.

As Alan Shearer recently said, Elliott looks absolutely comfortable in the Premier League. He’s found the level completely.

And according to former England goalkeeper Ben Foster, this will now lead to the Liverpool man getting even better in the future. We’re excited to see how Harvey will develop under Slot.

From the new manager’s point of view, he could hardly ask for a more willing student than Elliott. Just as he did under Klopp, we’re sure he’ll become a favourite of the head coach in no time.
