The five most accurate shooters at Aston Villa in 2023/24 season, with a big surprise in first place

Aston Villa have enjoyed an incredible season.

Unai Emery and his players managed to secure Champions League qualification via a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League whilst also reaching the Europa Conference League semi-final.

The likes of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby provided the firepower, with 27, 14 and ten goals respectively in all competitions.

However those tallies could have been even better – as could the rest of the squad’s – if they had been more accurate with their shooting once the opportunity presented itself.

With that in mind, here are Aston Villa‘s five most accurate shooters of the players who have played five or more games in the Premier League this season according to FBREF, with a surprise name at number one.

Alex Moreno Aston Villa’s most accurate marksman

So, left-back Alex Moreno was Villa’s most accurate shooter in the Premier League this season.

Perhaps some of this can be attributed to the fact the defender probably does no shoot unless he feels it is objectively the best option, whereas some of the more attacking players in the squad may take on shots with less chance of success.

Even with that taken into account, as shot accuracy of 50% is very impressive from the Spaniard and he does have a very cultured left foot.

The fact he has scored two goals from eight shots – or from a quarter of his attempts – shows a real efficiency that you would not usually attribute with a defender.

It is reassuring to see the likes of Watkins, Diaby and Morgan Rogers in the top five too, showing Villa’s attackers are performing well.

The other usual starting attacker, Bailey, was 11th in the list of players that qualify which shows the Jamaican could improve his accuracy dramatically, with a 34% of his attempts hitting the target.
