Report: Wolves set sights on 13-goal player likened to Raheem Sterling, O'Neil 'desperate' for more firepower

Wolves could turn to the Championship this summer, with the club showing interest in a versatile forward who’s previously been compared to Raheem Sterling.

Gary O’Neil is set to oversee his first summer transfer window at Molineux, and will be working closely with sporting director Matt Hobbs and the recruitment team to prepare the squad for 2024/25.

Wanderers finished 14th in the Premier League on Sunday, and the objective for next season will be to build on that.

Wolves should be able to spend a bit more freely this summer compared to last year.

A couple of big sales could happen, with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pedro Neto having both been heavily linked with other clubs.

But fans are hopeful of seeing a number of new faces come in – and one such new face could be Jonathan Rowe of Norwich City…

It has been reported by Give Me Sport that Wolves now in the frame to sign Jonathan Rowe from Norwich City, after the forward enjoyed a really productive season for the Canaries.

Rowe made 38 appearances, and scored 13 goals and made four assists across all competitions.

Norwich came up just short in their bid for promotion to the Premier League, which is potentially good news for Wolves if they want to sign Rowe.

O’Neil is said to be ‘desperate’ to add some more firepower to his squad. And Rowe is a player who appeals, especially since he is about to enter the final year of his contract.

There is a possibility that Neto will leave Molineux this summer.

There has also been speculation that Pablo Sarabia could be offloaded. Daniel Podence, who has been out on loan at Olympiacos, is not expected to be reintegrated by O’Neil.

So new additions in the wide areas this summer will surely be on the agenda.

Rowe could be an exciting addition

One thing that has been pretty clear this season is that Wolves have been at their best when Neto, Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan have played up top.

The trio are full of pace and mobility, and all three have had fantastic seasons, with the system suiting them really well.

Rowe – who is capable of playing on both wings – is a very quick player, and potentially someone who could fit in nicely. The Guardian ran a feature interview with him back in March, and the publication compared him to Raheem Sterling, stating he is ‘an explosive winger whose talent has marked him out for success since his teenage years’.

Sterling, of course, has seen his form dip in recent times. But when he was 21, as Rowe is now, he was a serious livewire for Liverpool.

Rowe is a player Wolves have had an interest in before. It was claimed back in November that the club were keen, but there was to be no January move. Now, with the player going into the final year of his contract and Norwich having failed to gain promotion, Wanderers might just fancy their chances of getting him.
