Report: Leeds United handed blow in bid to sign future 'superstar' who Jose Mourinho really likes

Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit to sign a highly-rated player, according to a recent report.

The Whites are preparing to face Southampton in the Championship playoff final this weekend and therefore still don’t know what division they’ll be playing in next term.

That’s making transfer planning very difficult at the moment as they’ll need to reconsider their budget if they are to remain in the second tier for another season.

That said, it has just emerged that one of their summer targets may now be staying at his club.

Leeds United handed blow in bid to sign Edoardo Bove

Leeds United have been handed a blow in their bid to sign Roma’s future ‘superstar’ Edoardo Bove, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Bove was previously linked with a move to West Yorkshire but now the Italian outlet has suggested that potential deal could be off the cards.

They note that the 22-year-old, whom Jose Mourinho really liked, played one of his best games in a Roma shirt on the weekend and his manager Daniele De Rossi hailed him post-match.

The ‘fans love him’ and it now seems he’ll be remaining in Rome beyond the summer with some suggestion that he could become a fixture of their midfield for many years.

Leeds United will have to focus elsewhere

Leeds will have to focus on other targets, though, any plans will likely have to wait until after the final on Sunday.

Gustavo Hamer has been a named mooted over the last 12 months, so perhaps he could be a viable alternative regardless of what division they end up in.

A telling week awaits Daniel Farke’s side.
