The University of Michigan chapter of Jewish Voices for Peace has reported that numerous protesters were hospitalized with chemical burns following an altercation with police on campus.
As previously reported by HNGN, Michigan State Police entered the campus earlier this morning, where the Gaza solidarity encampment was dismantled and protestors were doused with pepper spray before being removed and in some cases arrested.
The encampment has been inhabited by students and protesters since it was built on April 22,according to the Associated Press, appearing on campus near the end of the school year and just ahead of spring commencement.
Protesters had demanded that the school's endowment stop pumping money into companies with Israeli ties, but the University said it has no direct investiments and less than .1% of the total endowment placed with funds that only might include israeli-linked companies, AP reported.
At least 50 people were cleared from the encampment, and at least 4 people were arrested.
