Report: Chelsea considering 'brilliant' PL manager who took four points off Mauricio Pochettino this season

Chelsea have now added a new name to their manager search as they go about finding Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues now need to find a new individual to fill the manager’s dugout after it was confirmed on Tuesday that Mauricio Pochettino has left his role as head coach by mutual consent.

Pochettino guided Chelsea to a sixth-placed Premier League finish during just his one season in charge. His side were League Cup runners-up and FA Cup semi-finalists, too.

There’s already rumours flying around the media about potential replacements.

The Telegraph has named Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as managers likely to be considered by Chelsea.

A fresh report has now put forward the name of a Premier League boss that may also be looked at.

Chelsea may consider current Premier League manager

The Guardian has just reported that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is among the batch of managers under consideration by Chelsea for their vacant position.

Frank, 50, has built up a decent reputation since taking charge of Brentford back in 2018 as a Championship club. They’ve established themselves as a Premier League club since with three consecutive years in the top division.

It would be quite some step up if he were to move across west London and leave Brentford to take charge at Chelsea.

Interestingly, Frank took four points off Pochettino in Brentford’s Premier League games versus Chelsea this season.

  • Brentford 2-2 Chelsea – 2 March – (Nicolas Jackson 35′, Mads Roerslev 50′, Yoane Wissa 69′, Axel Disasi 83′)
  • Chelsea 0-2 Brentford – 28 October – (Ethan Pinnock 58′, Bryan Mbeumo 90+6′)

What Jurgen Klopp previously said about Thomas Frank

Brentford coach Frank is yet to sit in the dugout at one of the European giants under the biggest pressure, but he’s received the kind of praise that makes you think one day he could.

Jurgen Klopp, who managed Liverpool for the final time last week, once made some very interesting comments about Brentford’s manager.

When discussing Frank’s job at Brentford last November, Klopp said via Sky Sports Premier League: “Thomas is adapting… It’s really interesting. He’s doing a brilliant job. He seems to be very happy there… They are doing really well, really smart.”
