'Biggest problem': Gareth Bale makes claim about Ange Postecoglou's first season at Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale has now been sharing his thoughts on Ange Postecoglou’s first season at the club.

Despite the campaign having been concluded for many, Ange Postecoglou and his side are currently in Australia preparing to face Newcastle United.

In truth, it’s probably a game that both clubs could do without, but one that fans on the other side of the world will deeply appreciate.

Postecoglou’s first season in north London has been a success, even if some might doubt that statement after how the club’s season fizzled out.

But the new Spurs boss has already had a remarkable influence on the club’s style on the pitch, and seems determined to inspire more ambition off of it, too.

That being said, Gareth Bale has now been sharing his thoughts on the season in an interview with The Independent.

And despite highlighting a ‘problem’, Bale did think that Postecoglou had enjoyed an immensely successful debut campaign.

Gareth Bale says Ange Postecoglou’s fast start was his biggest problem at Tottenham

Speaking in the interview, the Tottenham legend thought Ange Postecoglou had dealt with Harry Kane’s departure remarkably well.

He explained: “I think they’ve had a very successful season. The biggest problem was that they started so well and the expectation went too much and too soon. It was a bit unfair.

“Ange has done an incredible job. Losing Harry [Kane] was going to be a massive loss, the amount of goals you lose.

“So to be able to finish higher than in previous seasons speaks massive volumes of how well the manager has done. He has also got them playing the Tottenham way.

“I went back again this season and it was very enjoyable to watch. Ange is definitely the right man for the job.

“If they can have a great transfer window this summer, which I’m sure they will, they’ll be in a better place next season.”

Ivan Toney would be the perfect signing for Tottenham this summer

Gareth Bale touches on Tottenham’s transfer plans there, and given the funds they are thought to have at their disposal, there’s a big opportunity to be had.

Spurs arguably need an addition in every area of their squad, they’re still incredibly early in Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild.

But there’s no doubt that this team is crying out for a goal-scoring striker, someone who can dovetail with Son Heung-min.

And perhaps to their fortune, Tottenham could have a pretty clear run at signing Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

The England international endured a quiet end to the season which seems to have cooled interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.

It would be a big surprise if Toney didn’t move on from Brentford this summer, and he does have similarities in his game to Kane.

And when a player already has a history of getting under Arsenal’s skin, they’re certainly not going to be the worst fit.

All that being said, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have recently agreed on three additions Tottenham should target.
