Chris Richards sends message to Adam Wharton after Crystal Palace No.20 makes EURO 2024 squad

Chris Richards has now sent a message to Adam Wharton after the Crystal Palace No.20 made England’s provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2024.

The £22m January signing is joined by Ebere Eze, Dean Henderson and Marc Guehi in Gareth Southgate’s 33-man squad, which must be whittled down to 26 by midnight on Friday 7th June.

Even if Adam Wharton – never previously capped by England – is dropped from the final squad, it is quite an achievement for him to even make the provisional squad, and Chris Richards has now congratulated his Crystal Palace teammate…

What Chris Richards said to Adam Wharton

The United States international seems to have struck up a strong friendship with the 20-year-old ever since he arrived at Selhurst Park in January, and the American was quick to praise his pal after hearing the news.

Richards wrote “@AdamWharton10 my son 🥺❤️” on his temporary Instagram story, clearly proud of the Blackburn-born maestro after his maiden England call up.

No other Crystal Palace player has congratulated Wharton – or Eze, Guehi and Henderson for that matter – although they are presumably waiting for the final squad announcement before getting the champagne out for their teammates.

Richards, however – clearly a bubbly character around Selhurst Park – simply couldn’t contain his pride, hopping onto Instagram to praise the England U21 international for his first senior call up, which was nice to see.

After a fairly miserable period under Roy Hodgson, it seems squad morale is growing once again.

England succeeding at UEFA EURO 2024 could land Crystal Palace a small fortune

Football finance expert Adam Williams recently revealed that Crystal Palace could earn as much as £900,000 in compensation from UEFA, if England reach the EURO 2024 final with Eze, Wharton, Henderson and Guehi involved.

There is said to be a daily compensation figure of £7,424 available for every day each player is away from Crystal Palace at the tournament, which – along with an 8% cut of broadcast, commercial and ticketing revenue – could actually bank the Eagles a total of £1.5m this summer.

Therefore, Crystal Palace fans now have even more of a reason to want England to succeed at UEFA EURO 2024.
