‘Very good’: Liverpool now interested in a player Fabinho wanted them to sign years ago

Liverpool are set for a busy summer in terms of new signings.

Indeed, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will surely want to make a splash at Anfield this summer, while Arne Slot will surely want to make his own mark on this squad as well.

Raphinha is reportedly a player that Liverpool are keen on heading into this summer, and interestingly, this isn’t the first time Liverpool have been linked with the Brazilian.

Indeed, back in 2021, Raphinha was a player the Reds were strongly linked with, and, interestingly Fabinho stated that he wanted Liverpool to sign him at that time.

Fabinho wanted Liverpool to sign Raphinha

Fabinho spoke back in 2021 about the Reds signing Raphinha.

“Since he arrived in the Premier League, he has had very good performances and highlights,” Fabinho said.

“For Liverpool, I was hoping that would happen. But in the end, he stayed with Leeds.

“He’s Leeds‘ best player today. Whenever we play against them, we know he’s the player who can cause the most danger.”

Raphinha would’ve been brilliant under Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are keen on Raphinha once again this summer, and it would almost be a shame if they managed to get this deal over the line at this point in time.

Indeed, Raphinha joining Liverpool immediately after Jurgen Klopp leaves the club would be somewhat ironic.

As a speedy right winger who loves to press and score goals on his left foot, Raphinha would’ve been a perfect player for Klopp.

Raphinha could’ve been the ideal Mohamed Salah understudy in Klopp’s system.

Of course, the Brazilian could play a similar sort of role under Arne Slot, but it’s still unclear how the Reds will play next season and if that high-pressing inverted wingers system will still be in place under the new manager.
