'Understand...': Joe Crann issues latest update on the future of Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday

Joe Crann has issued an update on contract talks between Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl‘s future has been in doubt for much of the year, having attracted interest as he looked to save Sheffield Wednesday from relegation.

The German managed to keep the Owls in the Championship on the final day, having lost only three of their last 16 games of the campaign.

Sunderland hadinitially been linked with a move for Rohl, but their survival gave Wednesday a huge boost as they looked to keep hold of him.

It wasn’t long before reports claimed the Yorkshire outfit were in talks with their head coach over extending his stay.

Danny Rohl looks increasingly likely to stay at Sheffield Wednesday

Rumours of an exit have since gone quiet, but it had so far been unclear whether Rohl would commit to the club.

However, The Star journalist Joe Crann has now issued a ‘positive’ update on his future.

He wrote on X: “Understand that talks between #SWFC and Danny Röhl are ongoing, but positive… Discussions over an extended and improved contract continue, and both parties are keen to get a deal done.”

Crann reported that Dejphon Chansiri has met with Rohl since the 35-year-old returned from his end-of-season holiday, while both parties are ‘eager’ to try and get a deal thrashed out as quickly as possible.

With Rohl clearly keen to stay at Hillsborough, it is now down to Chansiri to get a deal across the line.

Surely the only reason why he would now leave Yorkshire is if the chairman was unwilling to meet his demands, such as coughing up a decent transfer budget this summer.

The Owls could really do with the coach putting pen to paper sooner rather than later, as then it will allow the club to concentrate on the next season.

It could also have a big impact on the current players’ own contract talks, with some likely to stay at Hillsborough if Rohl does too.

The type of players Wednesday could attract to Sheffield may also change depending on whether Rohl is here, while fans will feel a lot more confident about the years to come if the manager has already committed himself.
