Jamie Carragher names one factor that is really holding Arsenal back from winning the title

Jamie Carragher has shared one factor about Arsenal’s squad that is holding the Gunners back from winning the title.

The north London side pushed Manchester City all the way to the final game of the season, with both challengers winning their last fixture as Pep Guardiola won his fourth Premier League title in a row.

Given the records Arsenal set this season, Mikel Arteta’s side can hardly be faulted for their efforts, as the Gunners again just fell short of matching City’s efforts throughout an entire 38-game campaign.

And Carragher believes one reason could be behind Arsenal missing out on the title.

Carragher claims Arsenal’s attacking-three isn’t good enough to win the title

Speaking on Stick to Football, the former Liverpool defender noted that Arsenal’s front-three when compared to City could be a key factor as to why the north London side fell just short of the Premier League.

Aside from Bukayo Saka out on the right, Arsenal’s front-line underwent plenty of changes throughout the season, from Gabriel Martinelli being replaced by Leandro Trossard to Kai Havertz becoming the main man leading the attack.

And whilst Arsenal did score plenty in the second half of the season, Carragher suggested that Arsenal’s options compared to City could be why the north London side dropped some points in the campaign due to a lack of real firepower.

Carragher said: “When I see the front three at the end of the season, who were all brilliant, I see that front three and think ‘can Trossard, Havertz and Saka as a front-three, is that winning the league?’ I look at City and I see Haaland, De Bruyne, Foden, that’s next level.”

Arsenal know they need to address the attack this summer

Arsenal find themselves in an interesting paradox where their attack has not looked this fluid and free-scoring in some years yet is clearly in need of added recruits this summer.

A lack of a killer finisher has been apparent for most of the season, with Trossard arguably the only player who fits this category for Arsenal with Martinelli’s form falling off a cliff.

As a result, Arsenal need to address this problem head on this summer, as well as bring in suitable backup for the likes of Saka, who is in danger of burnout come the end of next season.
