Newcastle fans can’t believe what commentator said about Alexander Isak during Tottenham friendly

Alexander Isak continued his fine form in front of goal as Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties in Australia.

The Magpies’ friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in Melbourne ended 1-1, with Alexander Isak cancelling out James Maddison’s opener. The contest then went to penalties, which Newcastle United won 5-4.

Eddie Howe’s side scored all five of their penalties, with the likes of Garang Kuol and Joe White converting from 12 yards.

It was a bit of a nothing affair in Melbourne, with the post-season friendly down under going exactly as anticipated. That is despite both sides putting out extremely strong starting XIs, with Howe putting out his best possible team.

Alexander Isak scores for Newcastle

That included Alexander Isak, who scored Newcastle’s only goal of the game shortly before half time. It came from a neat move down the right, as Bruno Guimaraes played Jacob Murphy into a dangerous position. His cross was blocked by Spurs goalkeeper Brandon Austin, but he could only palm it into the path of Isak.

The 24-year-old scored his easiest goal of the season, having found the net 25 times in competitive action.

Isak embarrassed Micky van de Ven during 4-0 win in April

Two of those goals came during a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur back in April. On that day, Isak scared the life out of Spurs defender Micky van de Ven. Newcastle’s super Swede embarrassed the centre-back, who had been hyped up all season because of his speed.

Yet Isak made a mockery of him, with Ange Postecoglou later admitting that Newcastle ‘smashed up‘ his side.

Isak was the star for Newcastle on that day, which makes what one of the commentators said during the game in Australia very confusing.

Newcastle fans confused by commentators Alexander Isak remark

There was a moment when Newcastle tried to play Isak through on goal, only for Van de Ven to burst past him and use his speed to recover possession.

This prompted one of the Aussie commentators to say: “I don’t think he [Isak] fancied going up against van de Ven and being embarrassed.”

It is almost as if the commentator forgot what Isak did to Van de Ven less than a couple of months ago, and this has massively amused Toon fans on X (formerly known as Twitter).

One supporter asked: “Co-commentator saying Alexander Isak doesn’t fancy it against Micky van de Ven. Has he forgotten what happened in April?”

“The commentators saying Isak doesn’t fancy going up against Van De Ven! Do your homework boys,” another fan tweeted.

“Commentator saying Isak didn’t fancy it against Van de Ven like he didn’t make him look like a tit twice a few weeks ago,” wrote a third Newcastle fan.

This person asked: “Does someone wanna show this Aussie commentator what happened when it mattered last month between Isak and Van de Ven?”

“Not sure he’s had much of a problem in the past mind,” a fifth member of the Toon Army wrote in response to the commentator.

And finally, this fan summed it up by writing: “These commentators man!”

The commentator either did not see Isak get the better of Van de Ven in the Premier League, or he forgot all about it. Newcastle’s most expensive ever signing showed him up when it mattered, while he was still able to score during this non affair down under.
