'Wow': Alan Shearer and Ian Wright were blown away by 'incredible' Newcastle player yesterday

Ian Wright was treated to a moment of brilliance from one Newcastle United player on his final Match Of The Day appearance ever.

While Ian Wright did not witness Arsenal winning the Premier League title, he did see Newcastle United getting the job done and finishing seventh, which could be enough to qualify for Europe.

With Chelsea beating Bournemouth, all Newcastle could achieve was finishing above Man United. That meant equalling their result, and the Magpies did exactly that.

There were some special performances as Newcastle won 4-2 against Brentford, with Bruno Guimaraes the best player on the pitch. Joelinton was also very impressive, as he started his first game since January after thigh surgery.

The Brazilian boys were sensational, and so was Newcastle United’s most expensive signing ever, Alexander Isak.

Shearer and Wright dazzled by Isak assist against Brentford

Isak was also at the heart of everything good about Newcastle against Brentford. He scored his 25th goal in all competitions, while he also got an assist and played a big part in Bruno’s goal.

The 24-year-old’s assist was exquisite, producing an incredible pass to give Jacob Murphy a tap in at the back post.

It was a special cross from Isak, and one that blew Alan Shearer and Ian Wright away on BBC Match Of The Day on Sunday night.

Shearer: “Isak’s got 21 goals in 27 starts. What about this for a cross. It’s incredible”

Wright: “Wow. That’s fantastic.”

Shearer: “Puts it on a plate for Murphy.”

Isak was back to his best for Newcastle United

The Sweden international has been suffering from illness as of late, and that resulted in below par performances against Brighton and Manchester United.

He was deemed fit enough to start again on Sunday, but appeared to be showing no signs of being unwell.

Isak was back to his irresistible best, with Brentford unable to handle him. He was even denied another assist, with his fabulous solo run resulting in Joelinton missing a sitter. Isak had done all the hard work, yet the midfielder put his effort wide.

For Isak, he ends the year with 21 Premier League goals, six behind Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland. With 25 goals in all competitions, this has been the best season of Isak’s career.

Newcastle must now keep Isak

After such a scintillating season, Newcastle’s attention will now turn to keeping Isak at St James’ Park.

The same goes for Bruno Guimaraes, and Alan Shearer commented on their respective futures later on Match Of The Day.

He said: “The big question, I suppose, is and the rumour is that will they both (Isak and Bruno) be at Newcastle next season? I certainly hope so. They are two top-quality players who have had very good seasons again.”

Hopefully Isak and Bruno do remain at the club. It has been reported that Isak’s asking price might be putting Arsenal off, while Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle are hoping he will sign a new contract very soon.
