Derby County transfer round up as Rams eye free agent attacker, Josh Windass latest and more

Derby County look to be readying themselves for a big summer in the upcoming transfer window.

Derby County under Paul Warne are returning to the Championship after securing automatic promotion from League One this season.

But the Rams will be right up against it next season with the second tier becoming increasingly difficult to stay in, and break out of too.

Birmingham City were relegated with 50 points this season and so Warne will know that he needs to add quality to his Derby ranks this summer.

Josh Windass to Derby County latest

Derby County are reportedly among the teams keeping an eye on Josh Windass‘ current situation at Sheffield Wednesday.

The experienced Football League forward is out of contract this summer, and he goes into the pre-season in good form after scoring in each of Wednesday’s final three league fixtures.

But the Rams may be disappointed to find out that Sheffield Wednesday have offered Windass fresh terms ahead of the 2024/25 season.

He’s yet to sign, but it looks like Derby County may miss out on the former Rangers man.

Derby County miss out on Viktor Johansson

One summer transfer target that the Rams have missed out on is Swedish goalkeeper Viktor Johansson.

Derby County were said to be keen on signing Johansson, 25, who made the most saves in the Championship this season, despite his Rotherham United side finishing in last place.

Stoke City have since announced the capture of Johansson who may well come back to haunt Warne’s side next season.

Derby County in race to sign Josh Murphy

Derby County News exclusively revealed this week that the Rams are keen on signing Oxford United play-off final hero Josh Murphy.

The 29-year-old winger scored both goals as his Oxford side beat Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in the League One play-off final.

He scored 10 goals in all competitions in the 2023/24 season, claiming five assists too, with the likes of West Brom, Southampton, and Sunderland previously linked.

Derby County News understands that the Rams and Portsmouth have both joined the race to sign Murphy, who’s still expected to leave Oxford United despite promotion to the Championship.

Rotherham United eyeing Louie Sibley

Lastly, Rotherham United are reportedly keen on Louie Sibley ahead of his Derby County contract expiring this summer.

The Rams academy graduate faces an uncertain summer with his deal set to expire, following five years as a first-team player, and 173 total appearances for the club.

The Millers are hard at work ahead of their return to League One under Steve Evans with his side having already signed three new players, including Jonson Clarke-Harris.
