Report: Sheffield Wednesday favourite will land new deal this summer, if Danny Rohl signs extended contract

Someone else at Sheffield Wednesday will land a new contract, if manager Danny Rohl extends his stay with the club.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is looking to extend the contract of manager Danny Rohl this summer.

The German’s contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season but Chansiri is understandably keen to extend his current deal.

There’s been reports of positive talks between the pair. The latest on this front is that talks remain ongoing, and remain positive.

And that’ll come as great news for Sheffield Wednesday fans who adore Rohl, after the 35-year-old guided the Owls to a miraculous 20th place finish in the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

It’ll also come as good news to first-team coach Chris Powell, who could also be handed a new deal, on the basis that Rohl’s deal is extended first.

Chris Powell could land new Sheffield Wednesday contract

An emerging report from The Star has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday ‘are expected to hand a new contract’ to Powell, ‘in the event of successful negotiations over a new contract’ for Rohl.

Powell arrived at Hillsborough soon after Rohl came in during the 2023/24 season, having since become a well-liked figure among Sheffield Wednesday fans.

It was thought that Chansiri was keen for Rohl to have an experienced coach, and a native English-speaker alongside him during his first managerial role, with Powell ticking the boxes.

The same report from The Star also revealed that the contracts of many other backroom figures, including Sal Bibbo, Sascha Lense, and Henrik Pedersen, also expire at the end of next season, along with Rohl’s contract.

One thing is key for Sheffield Wednesday right now

There’s a host of matters for Sheffield Wednesday to attend to this summer, and it looks like the club is definitely making a start on some of the more key issues.

A new deal for Rohl seems like the main priority and rightly so; he’s the most valuable asset at the club right now and he can lay the foundations for a much brighter future in S6.

But continuity is also something that the Owls need right now. Keeping Rohl, keeping his backroom team and the key players from the 2023/24 season, may mean keeping the club on this current trajectory.

If Sheffield Wednesday go through next season in the form they showed under Rohl this season, then they’ll be up in the mix for top six.

So continuity seems key for Sheffield Wednesday right now, and also maintaining the experience of names like Powell, who’s previously worked in the England set up.
