'Hopefully': Paul Lambert delivers his big Celtic vs Rangers Scottish Cup final prediction

The Celtic fans will be looking forward to the weekend’s Scottish Cup final against Rangers at Hampden as another opportunity to get the bragging rites over their closest rivals.

Winning three out of the last four Glasgow Derbies has made this season one for celebration on derby day and another in the showpiece season curtain call would be a great way to head into the summer break,

And whilst no one is getting carried away with our chances, having Brendan Rodgers leading a full-strength squad to the Hampden final just gives me that extra bit of confidence that the Celtic manager will pull off another good result.

Paul Lambert ‘hopeful’ of Celtic beating Rangers

Paul Lambert was asked his thoughts on the upcoming Scottish Cup final and whilst the former Celtic captain is hopeful of a result, he admits that ‘anything can happen’ in these big derby games.

Lambert said [talkSPORT], “I think Celtic go in favourites. The only thing that will give it an even-balance is the game being at Hampden and you’ve got the 50/50 split in the support.

“I still think Celtic are playing really well at the minute. The momentum is with them but in a cup final, especially with it being a derby game, anything can happen.

“Hopefully, hopefully, Celtic can get the win.”

Regular readers will know that I don’t believe that form goes out the window in these games. In fact, it very much determines who is most likely to come out as victors.

Since February 2022, Celtic have only lost once against Rangers in a meaningful game. Indeed, that was in the Scottish Cup semi-final extra-time defeat under Ange Postecoglou but in every other game that had meaning, Celtic have stepped up to get a result.

Now I am not naive. I understand that in cup football anything can happen as it did back then, but nine wins, three draws and two losses in the last two years shows that the momentum is very much with Celtic and that they have enough experience about them to win on Saturday afternoon.
