Report: What Chelsea sources were privately saying about Pochettino's training sessions before he left

A well-placed source has described what Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods were like at Chelsea before his exit from Stamford Bridge.

It’s now been confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino, 52, has officially left Chelsea by mutual consent.

The Argentine head coach has walked away from the Blues after only one season, where he did manage to secure a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League on the final day.

Chelsea training under Mauricio Pochettino

The Guardian has claimed that Pochettino’s methods on the training pitch were a bit outdated.

It is explained that one well-placed source privately described the training methods as “antiquated”.

The report says that the Blues had concerns over the coaches work at Cobham in training before the discussion in the end-of-season review, which ultimately ended in a split between parties.

In addition, The Athletic claimed earlier in May that Pochettino’s training methods at Chelsea have been regarded as underwhelming.

The work was paying off

Regardless of speculation about questionable training techniques, Chelsea did find rhythm on a matchday towards the end of the season. It’s one of the biggest reasons why Pochettino’s exit now is so disappointing.

The Blues finished their league campaign with five straight victories to clinch a European position. It was a run that included consecutive wins over Bournemouth, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Tottenham.

There was a consistency in the team selection and style of play towards the end of Pochettino’s era. Another manager will pick up the challenge with this young squad next season, though.

Hopefully, Chelsea stars such as Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella can continue their form into next year.
