18-year-old Liverpool youngster could have perfect chance to impress Arne Slot at Euro 2024

Liverpool called upon several youngsters throughout the season amid injuries to many of their first-team regulars.

And the former group of players didn’t disappoint, with a very youthful squad defeating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

The likes of Bobby Clark, James McConnell and Jayden Danns all featured at Wembley as the Reds won 1-0, with fellow youngsters Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni also in the squad.

But one teenager they were unable to call upon for that match and indeed the majority of the season was Ben Doak.

The 18-year-old has not featured for Liverpool since mid-December after suffering a serious knee injury. He was spotted returning to training early last month, but did not make a return to the pitch.

The winger had five senior appearances to his name in all competitions this season before the issue, and was certain to pick plenty of minutes as the matches continued.

Liverpool youngster sees light at the end of the tunnel

There is, however, light at the end of the tunnel for Doak, who has now been handed a first senior Scotland call-up.

His inclusion in Steve Clarke’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024 will surprise many, but the player himself must simply avoid the noise and work as hard as possible to secure a place on the plane to Germany.

Doak has two massive chances to do that, with Scotland taking on Gibraltar and Finland in friendly preparation for the tournament.

Clarke has selected a total of 28 players in his preliminary squad, with the manager then needing to cut it down to 26.

But Doak’s international stature could have a major say in his club future, with the teenager having the perfect chance to impress incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot this summer.

Ben Doak among Liverpool players set to try and impress early on

The Dutchman will be keeping all of his options open in his early days at Anfield, with Doak among a long list of players who will be eager to impress the new boss from day one.

The attacker is now in double figures for Reds appearances since joining from Celtic in 2022, and he will be keen to add to that tally as early as possible next season.

Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott have all proven they can operate on the wings, meaning regular playing time would be difficult even if Doak was fully fit.

But the future of Egypt star Salah is up in the air, meaning a winger position could open up under Slot next season.
