Report: 'Outstanding' manager has now rejected Chelsea's offer to replace Mauricio Pochettino

One manager now looks to be out of the running for the Chelsea job.

Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea on Tuesday by mutual consent, leaving the Blues in need of a new man for the dugout.

Several names have been linked to the club, including Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Maresca is actually the leading candidate to replace Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Another name, however, no longer appears to be an option for Chelsea.

Chelsea turned down

Hansi Flick is another manager who has also been linked with the Chelsea job.

The former Bayern Munich and Germany boss taking over at the Blues, though, now seems very unlikely.

A report from Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Flick has not accepted a proposal from Chelsea for him to become their new manager.

Flick is a name that is likely to appeal to some Chelsea supporters after what the German accomplished at Bayern.

It was the 59-year-old’s Bayern side who eliminated Chelsea from the 2019/20 Champions League en route to winning the tournament, an achievement Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag described as “outstanding”.

Where is Hansi Flick likely to end up?

The same report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona president Joan Laporta could turn to Flick if Xavi leaves the Spotify Camp Nou.

It is hard to imagine Flick saying no to a club like Barcelona, so that could be one possible destination for him this summer.

It is a shame that Chelsea are not an option for Flick. Looking at the squad he worked with at Bayern and what he won there, he could have been a good appointment for the Blues.

He had a lot of talent there and it would have been the same at Chelsea, who possess the likes of Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and captain Reece James. The club, however, do seem to have other options that they are currently looking at.
