Report: When Chelsea are now hoping to appoint their new manager after Mauricio Pochettino's exit

Chelsea fans may not have to wait too long to find out who their next manager is going to be.

The Blues are looking for a successor to Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine’s exit from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday that Pochettino had left the club by mutual consent.

There was good reason to believe that he would stay towards the end of the season.

In his last five games in charge, he led Chelsea to five consecutive wins. In the end, though, both the 52-year-old and the club decided it would be best if they parted ways. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali was reportedly quick to show Pochettino data that highlighted where his Chelsea team struggled this term.

Who is in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea?

There seems to be quite a few names that Chelsea are considering right now.

According to The Athletic, the Blues have admiration for Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and have discussed both Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

There does not appear to be a leading candidate for the job as of yet.

However, the same outlet claims that Chelsea are hoping to appoint Pochettino’s successor in a matter of days, as opposed to weeks.

Chelsea not rushing process

Even if Chelsea hired someone tomorrow, it probably would not be a rushed appointment.

Pochettino’s future had been up in the air for a while and he only arrived at Stamford Bridge on a short-term contract.

The likelihood is that Chelsea have been assessing the likes of McKenna and Maresca for a while.

It does not mean either would be the right appointment, but you can be confident that some thinking has gone into it, even if you cannot understand it, which has often been the case with the decisions Chelsea’s new owners have made since taking over the club. The standout one is obviously their decision to dismiss a Champions League-winning manager in Thomas Tuchel.
