'World class' forward could be perfect signing for Tottenham, and he's about to become a free agent - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur could actually deliver Ange Postecoglou the perfect new signing this summer in the form of a free agent.

Spurs are thought to have a considerable warchest right now, the club’s finances are said to be in excellent condition given the work done by Daniel Levy.

Ange Postecoglou will surely desire additions in almost every area of his squad, one that still isn’t quite in his image.

Postecoglou’s first season in north London has been a real success, even if it ended on a slightly disappointing note.

But when you consider the loss of Harry Kane’s goals, and the unfortunate injuries suffered by key players over the season, Spurs coped admirably.

But with Postecoglou now consistently pushing the club to match his ambition, the transfer market seems like the perfect opportunity to do so.

That being said, Tottenham may have just been presented with a pretty unique opportunity to sign a ‘world class’ forward as a free agent.

Memphis Deay could be perfect Tottenham option after leaving Atletico Madrid for free

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Memphis Depay – a very familiar name among Premier League fans, is about to become a free agent.

Romano reported on X that there’s no automatic extension in Depay’s contract for next season and the Dutchman will be free to pick his next club.

Now 30-years-old, Depay has a wealth of experience, and is perhaps a more levelled-head than during his time with Manchester United.

Primarily a centre-forward, the 90-cap Netherlands international would be capable of leading the line for Postecoglou, or could compliment the side’s attack starting slightly deeper.

Tottenham will need to move swiftly before the Euros

Perhaps a long-term deal wouldn’t be the most appealing from a Tottenham point of view, but a two-year punt could prove a masterstroke.

Depay will no doubt be a star for his country at this summer’s Euros, a tournament that could act as a shop window for the striker.

Although any deal would likely put some burden on the club’s wage bill, it would free up transfer funds to be prioritised elsewhere.

Of course, given that Paris Saint Germain’s Xavi Simons is also available this summer on loan, Tottenham could chase something of Dutch revival in north London.

Micky van de Ven is already flying that flag – a huge success story in his time with the club thus far.

And a few exciting opportunities now appear to be available for Tottenham this summer.
